This year I purchased several science kits for the kids to do at home. My kids love science. Doing science experiments at home is one of my best boredom busters. Most of our favorite kits come from HERE. I recommend getting the kits where possible, less items you have to find at home. I’ll post links directly to the kits we used as I go along.

Some of our favorites this year so far:

UV sensitive color changing beads! We put them into zip top bags, sprayed one with sunblock, and put them in the sun. Turns out our sunblock is doing a great job! The kids then made key chains or bracelets with the beads. They make a cool indicator for uv exposure. We picked these up on Amazon, some of the brands have mixed reviews, but if you get the Spangler brand like these they work really well.

Our favorite home science kit so far is the “power of air” kit. My kids loved this kit so very much. It took us three weeks to get through all the experiments. This kit has been recently reworked and broken into smaller kits.

The first week used a bottle with a hole in it, a cork, and a balloon to demonstrate the air pressure inside and outside of the bottle. My kids loved playing and exploring with this.

The second week we did the windbag experiments (except the solar wind bag). These were ok, my kids got frustrated with them when trying to “blow them up in one breath”. It did not work for us.

The best experiment in this kit, by far, was the solar windbag experiment that we did the third week. I decided to save this to do by itself because it is HUGE and a bit more intensive then the smaller windbags. I enlisted my husband and both his parents to help us out. This was quite the attention grabber. In fact this video was my first short to go viral on youtube! The Solar Wind Bag is totally worth the effort!! As of recently you can purchase it separate from the rest of the kit here! Which I totally recommend.

Thanks for reading!
